Cool stuff happening in the next couple of weeks!

We had an awesome rehearsal last night! We worked up a new set for the Miss Kitty’s show in Bowling Green on March 2nd! The songs sounded tight and powerful. Should be a great show!

Friday, we head back to Groove Studio in Berea to record our new song “Across the Earth”.  I am going to track drums and samples Friday night and the rest of the guys will track Saturday. I really can’t wait to hear this song recorded! It’s my personal favorite!

Show at The Attic in Lexington Saturday, January 28….and other things!

We have a show at The Attic in Lexington  Saturday, January 28! We just rehearsed the new setlist for the show and I have to say, it sounded KILLER tonight! The new set features the return of United/Divided, which we’ve had to drop from the set the past few shows due to it’s length. It feels good to have it back in the rotation…all 8 minutes of it!

We also worked on a new riff built from some samples I had made earlier in the week. My initial inspiration came from being hooked on the new Florence +the Machine album, but the samples turned out sounding closer to late 80’s era Ministry…all synth bass-y and machine like! It’s pretty dark sounding stuff, and what Logan and Jeremy contributed to it was incredible. We’re already talking about some unexpected twists and turns for it, so I can’t wait to see how it turns out.

…and…after rehearsal, we started working on a little surprise! You’ll see….soon….

The Battle is Over…

…and we came away with a 3rd place trophy and 200 bucks! We were super-excited just to make it through to the 2nd round, so taking 3rd place feels GREAT!!! The best part about the whole weekend was making new fans. Big thanks to everyone who supported us at the battle. Your kind words mean a lot to us!

Now, I guess it’s back to the basement to work. We’ve got a few new pieces of music to wrap our heads around and a new cover to tighten up.

Update

Rehearsed the battle set tonight…getting everything right down to the second! Sounded decent, but felt odd, like I was trying to fight the drums instead of playing them smoothly. I guess we all have those days, right?

Tonight was also my first band rehearsal with a new sampler. Kinda struggled with it, too. It’s always exciting to get new gear, but frustrating at the same time because, well, it’s not the old familiar gear! I’ve still got a few things to level out and sounds to resample, but overall, the new sampler is an awesome machine!

The next few weeks look to be busy for us! The battle in Somerset  is Friday. Then we have a few weeks of working on new material before returning to The Attic in Lexington at the end of January. There’s also talks of getting back into Groove Studio in the coming weeks to record “Across the Earth” (my favorite)! A few other surprises are in the works too, so stay tuned.

Well, I’m off to do some sampling!

Back in the swing of things!

After a couple of weeks off, we were back at it again tonight! We just finished our first Clear Channel battle set rehearsal. It sounded pretty right-on! The songs are in order, so now it’s getting them machine-tight! Expect a full 20 minutes of sound!!!

In other news, The Seas (and also my artwork) were featured in an article in the Manchester Enterprise this week. I’d like to thank Morgan Bowling for the exposure!

Finally, there’s nothing like brand new gear! I just received a new DW 9000 remote hi hat today. It’s supposed to be a Christmas present, but I’ve already got it out and assembled. It has so many cooler (and easier) features than my old one. I’m so glad I decided to replace the old one instead of trying to fix it! Now, if I could only talk Santa into the new Roland sampler….
